Bogalusa, LA — Startling revelations have emerged as the City of Bogalusa grapples with the disappearance of $19,000 in city funds from a city-owned bank account.

A check dated September 20, 2022, bearing the signatures of Tiffany Carney and Brandy Hines, has raised questions as it was ostensibly allocated for a "new balloon fest." However, according to city officials, there are no public records or documentation to justify such an expenditure by the previous commission members.

The Balloon Festival in question also raises eyebrows, as it seems to have had roots as a city-sponsored event according to social media posts from the Bogalusa Parks, Recreation, & Culture Commission Facebook page. City records indicate no recent approvals or official documentation of the festival's transition from a city initiative to a private event. There was controversy earlier this year when Mayor Tyrin Truong disbanded the commission and replaced every member due to concerns over financial matters and oversight.

City authorities, responding to this discovery, have launched an investigation into the matter. Both the Louisiana Legislative Auditors and the Bogalusa Police Department are now actively looking into the missing funds and the circumstances surrounding the mysterious "new balloon fest" expenditure.

While details remain scarce at this time, city officials have promised to provide more information as the investigation unfolds. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of robust financial oversight and accountability in the management of public funds.

The Bogalusa Tribune will continue to monitor this developing story and provide updates as more information becomes available. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and vigilant as the investigation progresses.

This is a white-collar crime the last time I checked.

Individuals steal for a reason. The ninthteen thousand ($19,000.00) 💸 dollars were needed and required to pay the yearly property taxes on a home in Palm Beach County, Florida. Just arrest the two (2) individuals whose names are on the check. All banking institutions have 📷 cameras. All banking transactions are tracked electronically. Let the citizens of Bogalusa, Louisiana know when these perpetrators of this financial crime are in handcuffs and behind bars. This is white-collar crime per my knowledge.
