BOGALUSA, Louisiana - The city is on the road to smoother and safer journeys as the much-awaited 2023 street repaving project kicks into high gear. Thanks to strategic planning and secure funding, several key roads have already received a fresh layer of asphalt, with more improvements on the horizon.
The central business corridor of Bogalusa has reason to celebrate as the "state streets" within this crucial area have been entirely repaved up to current Department of Transportation standards. This milestone accomplishment was made possible through funding from the state road transfer program, demonstrating the state's commitment to enhancing local infrastructure and supporting economic growth.
Under the leadership of the Truong Administration, Bogalusa has secured a generous grant of $310,000 from the USDA to pave two business thoroughfares: Memphis St and Georgia Ave. These roads play a vital role in connecting neighborhoods and businesses, and their improvement will undoubtedly bring about a positive impact on the entire community.
One of the noteworthy highlights of this project is the efficient approach taken to repair the Marshall Richardson St Railroad. Rather than hiring external contractors, the parish has taken up the task to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs. This proactive measure will not only save taxpayer money but also expedite the process of fixing this critical transportation artery.
Transparency and fiscal responsibility remain at the forefront of the project's execution. The material cost, including asphalt, has been diligently managed, with expenses carefully monitored to make the most of available resources. The cost for the parish to repave the railroad crossing is about $1,200 in material. The cheapest quote the City received from private contractors is $19,000--the reason for the delay in fixing the crossing.
The Bogalusa community can look forward to a smoother ride in the near future, as the railroad project is slated to be completed within the next two to three weeks. This ambitious timeline ensures that residents will experience minimal disruptions while enjoying the benefits of upgraded road infrastructure.

In addition to the completed and ongoing projects, the Truong Administration has further plans to tackle road improvement in various districts. Notably, Church St in Poplas Quarters is set to receive the attention it deserves, as efforts to touch the roughest streets in each district take shape. This comprehensive approach reaffirms the administration's dedication to addressing community needs across the city.
The ongoing street repaving projects serves as a testament to the City of Bogalusa's commitment to progress and prosperity for all its residents. By investing in better roads, the city is laying the foundation for a safer and more vibrant community, fostering economic growth, and enhancing overall quality of life.
As the project moves ahead, the Bogalusa Tribune will continue to keep readers updated on the latest developments and milestones reached. The transformation of the city's streets is indeed a journey worth following, and together, we can look forward to a smoother and brighter future.
