Op-Ed: The Time for Political Courage is Now, Bogalusa

BOGALUSA, Louisiana – As we look to the future, it is crucial that we embrace political courage and unite as a community to demand our fair share. As of late, the eastern side of the parish has felt left out, with a disproportionate allocation of resources and services. The time has come for us to stand together, elect leaders who prioritize the needs of Bogalusa, and claim what is rightfully ours.

Bogalusa is undeniably the economic engine of the parish, contributing over 35% of the tax base. Despite our significant contributions, we have not received an equitable return on investment in terms of essential services and infrastructure improvements. It is disheartening to witness the disparity between the taxes we pay and the services we receive.

We must no longer accept being pitted against our fellow parish residents on the western side. Instead, we should seek unity and cooperation that will benefit everyone in Washington Parish. This means demanding that our leaders address the pressing needs of Bogalusa and its surrounding communities.

Our community's strength lies in our collective voice and our right to vote. Bogalusa holds the distinction of being the largest voting bloc in the parish, and we must exercise this power to elect representatives who will advocate for our best interests. Nobody gets elected without Bogalusa! By uniting behind leaders who prioritize the needs of the Magic City, we can bring about positive change and bridge the divide that has existed for far too long. It is going to take more than the Mayor's Office.

Our vision for a #BetterBogalusa must encompass not just economic growth but also the overall well-being of our citizens. We must work tirelessly to ensure that our children have access to quality education, that our neighborhoods are safe and secure, and that our businesses thrive. By securing our fair share of resources and services, we can build a brighter future for all residents of Bogalusa.

Together, let us summon the courage to demand the changes we need and deserve. Let us inspire hope and optimism as we champion a new era of progress for Bogalusa. With determination and unity, we can reshape the future of our beloved city and ensure that our voices are heard loud and clear.
