BOGALUSA, Louisiana - Losing 10-15 pounds and being moderately active (similar to a brisk walk) for a minimum of 150 minutes per week cuts the risk of Type 2 Diabetes by 58%. For those over 60, it cuts the risk by 71% (almost ¾).


Someone with metabolic syndrome has an increased risk of developing Type II diabetes mellitus, fatty liver, Coronary Artery Disease, Stroke, and several cancers. Metabolic syndrome is one of the cornerstones of inflammation and a life full on joint pain, skin disease and poor health.

Metabolic syndrome is diagnosed in someone with three of the following.

  • Fat stored largely in the abdomen

  • High triglycerides >150

  • Blood pressure >/= 130/85

  • HDL <40 in men of <50 in women

  • Waist circumference >/= 40 in. in men of 35 in. in women
