In a thrilling matchup on February 9, 2025, the No. 6 LSU Tigers secured an 82-77 victory over the No. 19 Tennessee Lady Volunteers at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge. This win marked the first time in program history that LSU has defeated Tennessee twice in a single season.


Kailyn Gilbert emerged as a pivotal player off the bench, scoring 23 points, including two crucial free throws in the final seconds to seal the win. Notably, 21 of her points came in the second half, with 15 in the third quarter alone.

Aneesah Morrow achieved her 23rd double-double of the season, contributing 14 points and 14 rebounds.


Mikaylah Williams added 16 points and matched her career-high with seven assists.

Flau’Jae Johnson scored 12 points but faced foul trouble early in the third quarter.

Tennessee Lady Volunteers:

Ruby Whitehorn led the team with 21 points, surpassing the 1,000 career points milestone during the game.


Jewel Spear contributed 19 points, including three three-pointers.

Talaysia Cooper and Zee Spearman added 16 and 15 points, respectively.

  • First Half: LSU started strong, leading 22-20 at the end of the first quarter. They extended their lead to nine points in the second quarter, but Tennessee responded with a 6-0 run, narrowing the gap. LSU held a 41-37 advantage at halftime.

  • Third Quarter: Tennessee opened the second half with a 7-0 run, taking a brief lead. However, with key LSU players like Johnson and Morrow in foul trouble, Gilbert stepped up significantly, scoring 15 points in the quarter, helping LSU regain a 62-57 lead going into the fourth.

  • Fourth Quarter: The Lady Vols began with a 7-0 run to reclaim the lead, but Gilbert's continued offensive prowess, including a crucial three-pointer, helped LSU build an eight-point cushion. Tennessee narrowed the deficit to two points with 23.9 seconds remaining, but Gilbert's clutch free throws ensured the Tigers' victory.
